The Canik METE Line Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Canik's METE series has become one of the most popular carry pistol lines on the market — and for good reason. Excellent ergonomics, competitive price point, and strong aftermarket support. But the METE line includes several variants that look similar and share a name, yet have meaningfully different dimensions that affect holster fitment.
If you order a holster cut for the wrong METE variant, it won't fit correctly. Here's how to tell them apart and find the right holster for your specific gun.
Canik METE MC9 vs MC9 Prime: What's Different?
The MC9 and MC9 Prime are the two most commonly confused variants. Key differences:
- Trigger guard shape — The MC9 Prime has a revised trigger guard profile compared to the original MC9. This is the primary fitment difference. A holster molded for the MC9 will not index correctly on the MC9 Prime's trigger guard.
- Rail — Both use a Picatinny-style rail, but the rail geometry differs slightly between generations. This matters if you're running a weapon-mounted light.
- Overall dimensions — The MC9 Prime is dimensionally close to the original MC9 but not identical. Do not assume cross-compatibility.
Bottom line: If you have an MC9 Prime, order a holster specifically cut for the MC9 Prime. Do not order an MC9 holster and expect it to fit.
Canik METE MC9LS: The Long-Slide Variant
The MC9LS adds a longer slide and barrel to the MC9 platform. This changes the holster body length required. An MC9 or MC9 Prime holster will not accommodate the MC9LS slide — the muzzle will bottom out before the gun seats properly.

- Check the slide markings — Canik stamps the model designation on the slide. Look for "MC9", "MC9 Prime", or "MC9LS".
- Check your box or paperwork — the model number is printed on the original packaging.
- Check Canik's website — compare your trigger guard and rail profile to the product photos for each variant.
When in doubt, reach out before ordering. A holster that doesn't fit is a frustrating and avoidable problem.
